Yes, it’s finally happened. I have a laptop. Now this isn’t some humble brag. Readers of my blog, of whom there are many, will recall the time I tried to sell a book in order to buy a new laptop. Well, I panic bought a PS5 Pro and a disc drive with that money before they went up in price. Was it money well-spent? A few months later Sony announced they’re destroying all the discs, so you be the judge.

Alas, I’m now with a shiny new device. And what better way to christen it than to redesign my blog? Ta-da. Now that I’ve stopped fannying about tinkering with the unnecessary redesign, I can finally start using it for what I intended - more writing, more digital art, and a step back into game dev. And the latter starts now! You see, back when I sold all my stuff at the beginning of the year, and was definitely going to get a laptop, I purchased a Godot course. That’s been sat dormant, but now I can learn the ways of that popular game engine what everyone ditched Unity for is using.

Game dev was something I dabbled with a good few years back. I released two mobile games; Mushrun and Tappy Toyts. Both of these were Unity-built games, and while it was a decent engine, the less than recent stuff coming out from that studio left a sour taste in my mouth. The rising success of Godot intrigued me, and I started playing with it at a basic level. But then I lost access to my computer and voila, we’re here.

For the rest of the year I’m going to get to grips with Godot and see what I can do with it. Will I remaster an old classic? Who could possibly say! But I’ve been sitting on some game design docs for some time now, and they may well come to life soon. Don’t buy shares in Kieran’s Video Game Inc. just yet, but watch this space.
